DJ L-roy from Harare came out first in he Food World DJ’s battle finals held in Harare on Saturday afternoon.
The battle which was made up of four rounds saw Bulawayo’s DJ Ryan Synth come out thirdFor coming first DJ L-roy walked away with a Pioneer professional CD jay worth more than $4,500, while the second prize was grabbed by Harare’s DJ Black Snizzle who walked away with a Mac Book console worth more than $3,000.

DJ Ryan Synth, Mzoe and Miss Pam from Bulawayo joined 11 other contestants from across the country as they battled out for the top prize in the competition which marked its third anniversary this year.

Sean Hassen the organiser of the event said he was impressed by the amount of talent that he had witnessed during the contest.

“The competition that I witnessed during the contest is impressive. This shows that the industry of disc jockeys is improving and needs more support through such platforms,” he said.

Hassen said he was overwhelmed by the response Bulawayo had given as they did not expect them to show up.

“I want to praise the response given by the guys from Bulawayo.  They came through and they showed their contenders from other parts of the country what time it was,” he said.

The contest executive director and Food World Eastlea branch manager Tendai Chisvo said the competition was a platform for nurturing talent.

“This competition is a platform to give back to the community. It is also a multi-faceted event which encompassed DJs from all over Zimbabwe.

“Food World is always looking for means to inspire people, especially young people by uplifting them through such competitions,” he said.
Sibanengi “DJ Mzoe” Ndebele a local DJ applauded the initiative by the organisers of the event as he said competitions of such nature were needed in Bulawayo.

“I want to applaud the organisers of the event for creating such a platform. This is a nice new experience and it is good because it unites DJs from all over the country.

“Such events should be done in the City of Kings as they would elevate the talent in Bulawayo,” he said.

DJ Ryan Synth said the competition would benefit local talent greatly.

“In Bulawayo we really need festival shows. It is a benefit because at the end of the day you get contacts and exposure so with time you might get bookings to many towns,” he said.

Food World has hosted this competition annually since 2011.
