Emakhandeni are crowned champions of the inaugural Bulawayo Business Opportunities Twenty20 cricket tournament yesterday

EMAKHANDENI are the champions of the inaugural Bulawayo Business Opportunities Twenty20 cricket tournament following their six wicket triumph over Bulawayo Athletic Club in the final played at Queens Sports Club yesterday.

BAC won the toss, chose to bat and went on to be bowled out for 84 runs in 15.4 overs. Mandisi Moyo top scored for BAC with 25 runs off 17 deliveries while Mduduzi Fuzwayo second best with 21 runs. Off spinner John Nyumbu took two wickets for 12 runs in four overs while fellow slow bowler Allan Chigoma had the same number at the cost of 13 runs.

In response, Emakhandeni scored 88-4 in 14.4 overs to seal the victory, the highest score coming from Cunningham Ncube who made an unbeaten 35 runs from 47 deliveries.

Fuzwayo was named the player of the tournament, Moyo took the best batsman’s award, Emakhandeni left arm spinner Ainsley Ndlovu took the most excellent bowler’s accolade while Mphokuhle Dube of Queens was the adjudged the most outstanding young player.

Emakhandeni were presented with gold medals for the players, a shield for the team and a $400 cash prize. BAC received silver medals and a cash reward of $200.

Gary Nyumbu, a member of the organising committee expressed his gratefulness to the sponsors, Dulys Motors, Titan Law, Econet Wireless, Nyaradzo, Puma, Schweppes Zimbabwe, Goulash Catering and Flango Restaurant.

BBO president Justin Shiri promised that the tournament, which involved 12 Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association clubs will be bigger and better next year. In response, Emakhandeni captain Nyumbu made an undertaking that the players will also up their game in the next edition of the competition.
