HIGHLANDERS’ dragging of feet in renewing player contracts could see them lose a number of key players come December 31, but the club chairman has assured the Bosso faithful that they have the situation under control.

Already, several key players are reported to be on their way out of the club as a result of the club failing to tie them down.

Defender Mbongeni Ndlovu and central midfielder Brighton Mhanhire are set to join FC Platinum when their contracts come to an end on December 31. Ndlovu is said to have signed already.

Soccer Star of the Year finalist Andrew Mbeba is another who is being targeted by the Zvishavane-based outfit. Mbeba also has his contract lapsing at the end of the year.

Ngezi Platinum are said to be strong admirer of the freekick specialist.

Defender Andrew Tandi, Rahman Kutsanzira and striker Ray Lunga’s contracts are also expiring on December 31.

Bosso’s slow reaction has been attributed to the uncertainty of the Sakunda sponsorship which also ends at the end of the year.

Several local clubs are also said to be interested in vice-captain Peter Muduhwa.

Chief among those are Ngezi Platinum and Dynamos who are going to be representing the country in Africa.

Muduhwa however still has a running contract.

With just under two weeks to the year’s end, Bosso says they are in talks with players and nothing is amiss as yet in their conversations.

“There is no need to panic, everything is under control. At the moment the office is working as they should at this time of the year. I am in constant touch with the CEO and he has not reported any problems. Nothing is amiss as of now. If we encounter any problems we will update our members because they are the owners of the team,” said Sibanda.

Zambian coach Kelvin Kaindu is set to be in charge of the Highlanders dugout next year after the club parted ways with Portuguese mentor Baltemar Brito.

Zimpapers Sports Hub understands the two have only agreed on the deal verbally for now.

Kaindu is not new to coaching Highlanders.

He was in charge of the team from 2012-14.

He has been clubless for the last eight months after being released by Zanaco back in April.

In Zambia, Kaindu coached Nkana Red Devils, their bitter rivals Power Dynamos between 2018 and 2019 and Buildcon after returning to Zambia.

In Zimbabwe, he coached Bosso, Triangle United and How Mine.
