THE country’s biggest “spenders” in the January transfer window, Bulawayo Chiefs, are not done with their shopping spree, as there are strong indications that they have added former FC Platinum midfielder Kelvin Madzongwe to their squad.

Madzongwe, who is fresh from an unsuccessful Afcon finals sojourn in Cameroon, has reportedly put pen to paper and the Twitter Kings are expected to officially unveil him soon.

FC Platinum announced this week that they had parted ways with the midfielder after his contract with the Zvishavane side was not renewed.

Other FC Platinum players, whose contracts were not renewed, are Silas Songani, Rahman Kutsanzira and Ralph Kawondera.

Kutsanzira has since rejoined Highlanders, while Kawondera is now a Dynamos player and Songani went overseas.
Madzongwe joined FC Platinum in 2018 after being initially linked with a move to a number of local clubs, including Highlanders and Harare City.

Chiefs’ communications officer Thulani “Javas” Sibanda was coy with details surrounding the move.

However, a source close to proceedings at the club confirmed the move.

“It’s a done deal. Madzongwe has joined Chiefs,” the source said.

Madzongwe will join the other Chiefs’ new signings, who include returnee Perfect Chikwende, former Chicken Inn forward Obriel Chirinda and nomadic veteran striker Obidiah Tarumbwa.

Madzongwe (31) is a defensive linkman, who has previously played college football in the United States of America for Boston University, while studying for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications majoring in public relations and marketing.

Before he went to the USA, Madzongwe had stints at the now defunct Njube Sundowns and Chicken Inn.

He also played for Highlanders’ juniors and Sparrows in the Division Two League. -@innocentskizoe
