BELMONT Construction trading as Hardwoods for Africa needs at least $50 000 capital to upgrade its plant in order to boost production capacity.

Speaking during the Home Building and Construction Expo held at a hotel in Bulawayo last week, sales and marketing manager Mr Peter Marume said they needed new machinery to boost production and meet growing local demand.

The company supplies solid teak wood, kiln dried timber, safari furniture, dining room suites, coffee tables and many other custom designed products to a number of hotels in various cities in the country such as Bulawayo, Victoria Falls, Kwekwe, Gweru and Harare.

“We want to raise about $50 000 to buy machinery to boost production. The local market is increasing and we want to cater for this ever growing market. We also want to increase our employment capacity because we want to venture into exports very soon,” said Mr Marume.

He said the firm has been in business for the past 45 years hence it has capacity to meet export demand as they were already supplying some individuals who in turn sell the products out of the country.

Mr Marume said despite the cash challenges they have managed to stay in the business through engaging customers to pay through payment plans.

“It’s difficult for our customers to pay us in full. We have engaged them to apply for payment plans so that the business keeps going and we retain them,” he said.

The expo was organised by the Rainbow Tourism Group and was attended by a number of stakeholders in Bulawayo.
