THE Football Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) says it will hold a training camp for Bulawayo-based out-of-contract players during the mid-season transfer window in July to help them to secure clubs.

FUZ president Desmond Maringwa said they had initially planned to hold the camp before the start of the 2016 season but pushed it forward due to a low uptake in the city.

“We registered a low number than we had anticipated in Bulawayo and we have since resolved to hold the camp during the mid-season transfer. We wish we could make it a national tour, but our coffers are dry,” said Maringwa.

“Some players have been invited for trials by different clubs, so we’re not really sure who is where, leaving us with only 12 confirmed players for the Bulawayo camp. This exercise will not only help players secure teams, but also teams to choose from a wide range of players. It will also help in avoiding registering players already engaged by other clubs.”

FUZ held a pre-season training camp at the National Sports Stadium B Arena in Harare last weekend and it was attended by about 70 out-of-contract players. Experts took the players through various football techniques.
