THE 2021/22 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League curtain came down at the weekend with 21 goals scored on the final day of an exciting race.

Champions FC Platinum who ended the season 12 points clear of runners-up Chicken Inn, won their crowning match against Cranborne Bullets 3-0 as they took their points tally to 75. Chicken Inn wrapped up their campaign with a 1-0 win against Triangle United.

The four-time champions, FC Platinum, got their goals from Walter Musona who banged his 14th goal of the season, Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya and Panashe Mutimbanyoka.

Walter Musona

Musona could have easily scored at least four goals and challenge for the Golden Boot but was wasteful on a day that FC Platinum easily strolled to victory and got their official fourth consecutive title.

Musona missed the Golden Boot accolade by three goals, as Caps United’s marksman William Manondo capped a fine season for himself becoming the league’s top scorer with 17 goals. Just like Musona, Manondo was on target on the last day of the season as he scored in the Harare derby that ended 1-1 against Dynamos.

DeMbare, who ended the season third on the table with 58 points, got their equaliser from Emmanuel Paga in the dying stages of the game.

But the biggest winners of the weekend were Ngezi Platinum Stars who clobbered Division One headed Whawha 5-0 and in the process consolidated their top four finish as they amassed 55 points.

Ngezi’s impressive victory meant that they ended on a 10-match unbeaten run having last tasted defeat on August 13 when they lost 1-0 to Cranborne Bullets.

The win by Ngezi also meant they toppled Highlanders who suffered a 3-1 shock defeat at the hands of Harare City from being the second best performing team in the second half of the season after FC Platinum who collected a massive 41 points from 17 games.
