THE Godlwayo Football League says it is ready to host Highlanders Academy in a pre-season tournament that will see the Bulawayo side fielding three teams this Saturday at Vokola in Insiza district.
The league comprises 12 teams and Highlanders will field a legends’ and two teams from the development side in the tournament.
Tournament coordinator Nkululeko Tshuma hailed the newly promoted Zifa Southern Region Division One outfit’s gesture to grace a rural soccer event.
The Bosso academy was promoted to Division One after finishing second to Talen Vision in the Zifa Bulawayo Division Two league last year.
“This event will be historic for our community as it will create an everlasting relationship between us and the community’s favourite team Bosso. It will open doors for our footballers, not only to Bosso, but other teams scouting for players in lower leagues,” Tshuma said.
He said they were also working on a memorandum of understanding with Highlanders for their league to become a feeder to the Bulawayo giants.
“As a community, we’re strong supporters of Highlanders and it will mean a lot to us to have them visit and rub shoulders with their supporters. We believe that even though not all our players will be admitted into the Highlanders’ development side, they will get the necessary exposure for grooming their footballing skills,” said Tshuma.
Godlwayo Football League chairman Norman Sibanda also applauded the Bulawayo giants for accepting their invitation.
“We’re going to benefit from better insight on coaching techniques and ways of improving our league. We’re at the grassroots trying to develop our players, but Highlanders are well established and we’re hoping they will help by sharing ideas with us on how to develop players,” said Sibanda.
