THE second cycle of the Government’s 100-day work plan is a huge success as evidenced by local  authorities such as Gokwe town council which has completed a $900 000 town house, a Cabinet Minister has said.

Addressing mayors and town clerks during the official opening of the Gokwe Town Council state-of- the-art town house on Monday, the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Cde July Moyo, said he was happy that his ministry was one of the ministries that are meeting targets under Government’s second 100-day programme.

The 100-day cycle approach was adopted by Government following the inauguration of President Mnangagwa in November last year.

It has cascaded down to line ministries and key institutions.

The first 100-day cycle ended on April 10 and the Government embarked on the second cycle, which lapsed last week.

In December last year, President Mnangagwa tasked all Government ministers to come up with target-driven economic projects for execution in cycles of 100 days.

Cde Moyo said he presented a 400 page work plan to President Mnangagwa with set targets of the ministry and those of individual rural and urban councils.

He said he was happy to see progress across the country as the local authorities meet their work  plans.

“We are here today to witness the official commissioning of this project which is worth nearly $1 million.

“It has been commissioned in the second 100 days cycle which is very commendable and an indication that President Mnangagwa’s targets are being met,” the Minister said.

“We are here in Gokwe but I can tell you that almost all local authorities have completed their different set targets for this second 100 days cycle like Gokwe town which has finished the construction of this civic centre for about $900 000. We can’t be everywhere but we celebrate with you and President Mnangagwa.”

Cde Moyo said his ministry’s set targets include bringing back power to the local authorities which had been taken by central Government, raising funds for the local authorities to commence rehabilitation of roads, sewer and water reticulation services which had been affected by the poor performance of the economy in the past 20 years.

“Government is prepared to raise funds to correct the anomaly of poor roads, poor water and sewer systems in the local authorities. Government realised that the local authorities can’t go it alone and has made an assessment and a budget has been given to the Ministry of Finance in the hope that soon we will start to assist the local authorities,” he said.

Cde Moyo said President Mnangagwa’s Zimbabwe is open for business mantra can bear fruit when infrastructure in the local authorities is in its best condition.

In the Midlands province, Zvishavane town council officially commissioned a $400 000 vendor’s mall that can accommodate about 500 vendors in the first 100 days cycle.

Addressing the same function, the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs, Cde Owen Ncube, encouraged other local authorities to prioritise service delivery for the socio-economic development of the country.
