THE Government has officially launched the Filabusi Community Information Centre in Insiza District, Matabeleland South province.

The new facility would enable locals to access digital services by providing basic electronic services such as internet surfing, electronic mail service, printing, scanning, photocopying and document binding for community convenience.

The Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICTs), Postal and Courier Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, presided over the launch today, where he stressed the importance expanding online connectivity and creating a digital economy.

He revealed that the country’s Internet penetration has increased to 60 percent in the third quarter of 2020 from 56 percent in the previous quarter.

The attainment of a digital economy and a knowledge society is one of the key pillars of National Development Strategy (NDS1:2021-2025), launched last month by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as a building block towards an upper middle-income economy by 2030, he said.
