BINGA District Hospital has floated a tender to repair and refurbish the institution’s mortuary and work is expected to be completed by the end of this year as Government continues to fund construction works at health facilities across the country.

The mortuary project is a part of major projects set to transform the entire district.

Addressing thousands of people who gathered to witness the official commissioning and handover of fishing rigs to 21 chiefs, 17 from Binga and four from Kariba in April, President Mnangagwa said Binga will no longer lag behind in terms of development.

He admitted that over the years Binga has been regarded as under-developed but said that record must be reversed as the New Dispensation was focused on driving inclusive development.

“We looked at Binga and it seemed to lag behind but today we are celebrating because development has come your way, now is the time to work together and transform our country.”

Funding has been availed to repair the Binga mortuary, as well as making sure that clean water is supplied to the district hospital.

In an interview, Binga District Medical Officer (DMO), Dr Sibonginkosi Ncube said the mortuary refurbishment is an emergency and should be completed by the end of this year considering that the funds have already been provided.

“This project should be completed as soon as possible, by the end of year, it’s a matter of emergency. In terms of money set aside it’s a budget inside a budget, but we don’t expect financial glitches. A total of ZW$70 million was funded for the mortuary and general renovations,” she said.

In a statement, the district hospital invited bids for two tenders, the refurbishment of the mortuary and that of supply and delivery of carpentry material.

“Bids are invited from reputable bidders validly registered with the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ).
