A SECURITY guard at OK Supermarket and his wife connived with a till operator at the shop’s Victoria Falls branch to steal groceries, a magistrate heard.

David Moyo, 24, of Chinotimba suburb, who was employed by Safeguard Security Services, his wife Joyline Ncube, 25, and Naome Chiwira, 28, stole groceries worth $70 last week.

Ncube, the court heard, entered the shop, filled a trolley with items and went to the till where Chiwira only receipted two chewing gums before she (Ncube) packed the goods in plastic bags and proceeded to the exit where her husband was standing.

Moyo pretended to check her receipt and groceries before letting her go.

Security officers discovered the offence a week later when they reviewed CCTV footage.

The three were charged with theft yesterday when they appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Rangarirai Gakanje.

They were each sentenced to 10 months in jail but will not taste jail life.

The magistrate suspended two months for five years on condition of good behaviour while the remaining eight months were suspended on condition that each of them completes 280 hours of community service.

Ncube will do unpaid work at ZRP Victoria Falls while Chiwira will serve at the police station’s pre-school.

Moyo was sent to do the community service at Victoria Falls District Hospital.
