Gunners gun Dembare down

GUNNERS produced a fine performance to deal a body blow to Dynamos’ title aspirations when they edged the Harare giants in a lukewarm Premiership match at Rufaro yesterday.

Midfielder David Redhiyoni scored the solitary goal of the match early in the third minute to help Chando Kupisa collect their third full set of points in successive matches and keep pace with the top teams in the Premiership race.

Gunners to their credit were superior in all departments except the final third where the Premiership top goal-scorer Norman Maroto and strike partner Tongai Magwendere struggled to make an impact in front of goal against his former paymasters.

But Gunners totally outclassed their opponents and deservedly walked away with the points.

Barely had all the supporters taken their seats when Redhiyoni put Chando Kupisa in the driving seat.

The lanky midfielder received the ball after a good work on the left flank by Qadr Amini and Ali Sadiki and controlled well before firing a low shot that beat unsuspecting goalkeeper Washington Arubi from just outside the box.

However DeMbare spurned a golden opportunity to level terms when goalkeeper Washington Arubi shot wide after referee Masimba Chihowa awarded them a penalty in the 64th minute.
Defender Daniel Vheremu had handled inside the box in an effort to block out Evans Gwekwerere’s shot.
