exist in literary works of the nineteenth century fiction writers, tea in the west has always been a woman’s drink.
The ritual of perfumed ladies calling on their societal equals whom they often found tedious and watching each other perspire on blistering afternoons as they drank endless cups of tea and put away the most amazing number of cakes is another literary classic. In the modern era when focus has moved to the business world for both men and women, power breakfast and business lunches have become the order.
For networking the cocktail is the obvious choice. But most of these gatherings generally remain a guy thing with very few women comfortable with the idea of holding a boozing session with a colleague, which is what men seem to do.
But women have since realised that there is no need to try and imitate men. There is no need to deny their nature in order to be perceived as serious business people.
With this in mind, Precious Chitapi, founder and Editor in Chief of Woman Magazine has come up with the idea of a high tea for women to socialise and network on their own grounds. The inaugural Charity High Tea will be held at the Rainbow Towers Hotel on Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 10 in the morning to four in the afternoon. As the name implies, proceeds from the event will be channelled to charity.
According to Chitapi spiritual, financial, health, fitness and educational issues pertaining to women will be discussed.
“Guests will also be treated to a fashion show, musical entertainment and they will be a chance for one-on-one consultations with various experts,” she promised.
Pastor Bonnie Deuschle of Celebration Centre will be the hostess for the day. The function is part of Woman Magazine programme for International Women’s Day commemorations and this year’s theme is “Celebrating Our Women”.
International Women’s Day is observed on March 8 with Americans designating the whole month to women’s history commemorations. Woman Magazine was launched on January 14, 2011 and the second issue is expected to come out soon.
