How Mine cruised to the quarter-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup after dismissing fellow Bulawayo side Chicken Inn at Mandava Stadium yesterday.

A  26th minute strike by midfield dynamo Wonder Sithole was all the gold miners needed to compound the Gamecocks’ woes.
Timothy January, who was full of running all afternoon,  dribbled past his marker on the right and  spotted an on-rushing Sithole at the edge of the box. He unleashed a left footer that hit the inside of the upright before crossing the line past Elvis Chipezeze.

“I wanted to take the goalkeeper by surprise and I just took one of my trademark shots. I am happy that I am improving with each passing game and today was one of our best performances,” said the 30-year-old player.

Chikurupati could have increased their tally in the 35th minute through Godfrey Nguwodzawo.

Nkosana Nduna, the Gwanda based referee who had a good show, awarded the miners’ a freekick at the edge of the box.

The former Harare City player unleashed a thunderbolt that Chipezeze did well to block but there was no white shirt to drive the rebound home.

Kudakwashe Musharu, who has not scored a goal since his call up to the Warriors in May, could not believe his eyes when Chipezeze did well to punch his effort back into play but again his teammates were on holiday as the rebound found no taker in the 75th minute.
While How Mine were celebrating Joey Antipas, the Chicken Inn coach, was a bitter man as he once again failed to beat the miners.

In their first meeting, How Mine won 2-1 in a league game.

The two Bulawayo teams have been struggling this season with Ncube throwing in the towel last week at How Mine.

Antipas is still in charge of Chicken Inn and if  the desired results do not come, alarm bells will soon start ringing as the  battle for survival rages on in the  league.

Isheunesu Chaka  and Jeremiah Makota were in charge of the team following the resignation of Philani “Beefy”Ncube.

Chaka, however, still heaped praises on Ncube.

“It feels great to win. It was good work from Sithole. I learnt a lot from Philani and it was his voice which was in control. It’s just a matter of luck and I hope God will continue blessing us. We need to remain focused,” he said.

His counterpart evaded the press as he dashed to the dressing room after the final whistle.
