ZIFA Southern Region has urged Hwange FC to remain in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League and avoid relegation to the second tier league in the 2019 season.

Hwange won the sole ticket to the PSL after pipping former Premiership companions Tsholotsho, who at one time during the course of the season led the Southern Region Division One league table.

Speaking after the final of the Landa John Nkomo memorial trophy at Luveve Stadium in which the coal miners lost 0-1 to Talen Vision, Zifa Southern Region board member for competitions Fiso Siziba said Chipangano must not make up numbers in the elite league.

“Once again congratulations to Hwange for winning the race for the Premiership and we wish them a lengthy stay there. We don’t want them to come back but stay in the PSL to increase numbers of teams from this part of the country,” said Siziba.

Hwnge coach, Nation Dube, said they were going into the PSL to stay and not to make up numbers.

“We are ready for the big stage and shall compete. We will make a few additions to some areas that we feel need reinforcement,” said Dube.

Hwange were relegated for the second time in the modern day Premiership last year, the first being in 2008 when again they stayed for a single season before bouncing back in 2010.
