HOSTS Zimbabwe will get the International Cricket Council Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2021 underway with a match against Thailand at the Harare Sports Club on November 21.

West Indies will take on Papua New Guinea on the same day.

The Lady Chevrons are in Group B together with Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand and the United States of America.
Group A has the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Papua New Guinea and Netherlands.

Matches will be played at four venues, Harare Sports Club, Old Hararians, Sunrise Sports Club and Takashinga Cricket Club.

According to the International Cricket Council, there is no knockout stage in the competition, with the preliminary league, consisting of five teams each in two groups, followed by a Super 6 stage to decide the final positions at the end of 29 matches.

The Super 6 stage begins on December 1.

Only three qualification slots are available for the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup that will be held in New Zealand from March 4 to April 3.

Australia, England, India, South Africa and hosts New Zealand have already qualified through the ICC Women’s Championship.

Meanwhile, the Lady Chevrons have arrived in Bulawayo ahead of their one-day international series against Bangladesh next week.

The Lady Chevrons are scheduled to host Bangladesh in three one-day matches from November 10-15 at Queens Sports Club.

Zimbabwe Cricket was last week granted the green light to let in 1 000 fully vaccinated fans into the stadium for the upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh following relaxation of Covid-19 protocols. – @innocentskizoe
