Langa, Abednico Ncube clash over polls

Cde Ncube told journalists on Sunday in Bulawayo that the elections should be declared null and void as they had a lot of irregularities, while Cde Langa said there was nothing wrong with the polls.

“The Matabeleland South DDC elections, especially in Gwanda, were not sanctioned by the Politburo and there are a lot of irregularities, which have to be sorted out. We were advised by the national commissariat to stop running the elections until further notice,” said Cde Ncube.

“Surprisingly some interested members, who include Cde Langa, decided to go ahead with the elections, a procedure which is unheard of and unconstitutional.

“The elections were presided over by interested party members, who include Cde Langa and some police officers. There was no senior party member from head office who took part in the elections.”

He said the elections should be declared null and void and accused Cde Langa of working against the party’s constitution.

“As far as we are concerned, these elections are null and void. We want a spirit of togetherness to prevail in the party through adhering to the constitution.

“We do not accept what is happening because we want to move forward and build the party,” said Cde Ncube.

In response, Cde Langa said the elections were going on well and would only stop if the national leadership nullified them.

He said Cde Ncube did not have the authority to nullify the elections.

“Cde Ncube does not have the power to nullify the elections. I have not been briefed by the party leadership about the irregularities of the elections and as far as I am concerned, the elections are going on well and we have no problems,” said Cde Langa.

“Three weeks ago, we held our verification process which was led by the Politburo teams and Cde Francis Nhema was in our province. “We then agreed with the Politburo that the DCC elections would be held last weekend.

“I also spoke to the party’s spokesperson, Cde Rugare Gumbo, and he said we could go ahead with the elections. He told us to hold elections which are free from imposition of candidates and intimidation of voters.

“We have since held the elections in Beitbridge, Gwanda and Insiza but we are yet to announce the results,” said Cde Langa.

He said the elections would continue until he received communication from the party’s national leadership about the irregularities.

Cde Langa accused Cde Ncube of involving the media in issues of the party, saying it was not good.

“It is wrong for us as a party to discuss such issues through the media. If Cde Ncube has any problems concerning the party, he should approach me instead of communicating through the media.

“I would like to tell my colleagues that it is important for the party to let democracy prevail,” said Cde Langa.

There have been reports of imposition of candidates during the Zanu-PF DCC elections especially in Manicaland and Masvingo provinces.
