DJ MduSevan (real name Mduduzi Ngoma) has teamed up with local producers to launch a recording studio and music agency.

The partners are producers Lorenzo (Dancehall), Lungz (Afro-pop), Sparks 45 (Hip-Hop). DJs Skaiva, Nitefreak and Kead Wikead are executive producers.

The crew began production last month at the newly established The Cradle Audio Lab studio with MduSevan saying they are yet to engage many more producers as they grow the label.

“I can safely say we’re officially open for business. The Cradle’s core business is recording vocals, mixing and mastering. We also do sound designing, sample recording and sound scoring for movies and films,” said MduSevan.

He said the idea behind such partnerships is to ensure that the music industry grows and reaches its full potential.

“As an individual, you can only go so far, but as a group, you can go as far as you want. It’s time people in the arts industry team up and push as one,” he said.

MduSevan said The Cradle is set to identify and polish raw talent from the city and develop working relations with other record labels internationally.

“The talent that’s in the city is unbelievable as some producers in the local house music scene have managed to break boundaries internationally. One example is award-winning DJ and producer Skaiva who’s hit single (Shingirira ft Joy) has been featured on South African producer Chymamusique’s new album Musique.”

He said the recording label has introduced a subscription service for artistes to record at an affordable structured price system.

“Our target is the young and talented artistes who face problems. That’s why we’re calling upon all up-and-coming artistes to subscribe with us so that we assist them,” said MduSevan.

The subscriptions come in three packages (Bronze, Silver and Gold) that include free vocal coaching and recording as well as other benefits.

Within weeks of operating, MduSevan said they have already produced a show for ZBC titled, ‘I tell stories’.

The talented DJ who was actively involved with the Bulawayo Live Sessions, a virtual show aimed at promoting music from the city, said they are hoping to venture into artist and events management.

“The time has come for the industry to put its house in order and managing artists’ affairs is our business.
Artistes need to start treating their craft as a business,” said MduSevan
