MAKOMO FC consolidated their lead at the top of the Zifa Matabeleland North Division Two league table the hard way after shedding gallons of sweat to prevail over resilient and determined Baobab Rovers at GVZ Stadium on Sunday. It took an injury-time penalty conversion by goalkeeper David Bizabani to break Baobab Rovers’ hearts and leave Makomo player/coach Tapela Ngwenya heaving a huge sigh of relief after the explosive duel which clearly drained all the energy from the two teams.

While the miners were being given a tough time at home, second placed Amagagasi got three points on a silver platter when they walked over Brazil with a 3-0 scoreline after the Makwika-based outfit failed to travel to Victoria Falls for the match.

Brazil’s fate is not yet decided but indications are high that the club might be shown the exit door in the league for missing the third game this year.
It will be sad if they go down the drain like neighbours Kabwe Warriors and Rufaro Rovers who have been part of Hwange football history in the last 40 years.

In Victoria Falls Classic Luyando continued with their good run when they hammered visiting Hwange side Iwisa 4-1 at Chinotimba Stadium.
Mordecai Moyo and Lucky Ndlovu scored a brace each with Iwisa’s Moses Gama reducing the arrears for Iwisa who were left looking an ordinary outfit in the encounter.

On Saturday, third placed ZRP Hwange made light work of an out of sorts Blackrock at Sports Pavilion to register an emphatic 3-0 victory.
Hwange U-17 lost 1-0 to Prison Eagles with Samuel Ngazimbi’s goal making all the difference in the match.

At Madumbabisa, Fire FC halted their slide of five losses on the trot with a wildly celebrated 4-2 win over Ingagula. Ushe Nyarungwe and Fortune Matenda grabbed a brace apiece with efforts from Wayne Shumba and Malvin Ngwenya failing to pull the game out of the fire for the visitors.

Fire FC coach Charles “Nsomba” Chuma was over the moon after the game and he must have had a long and peaceful sleep for the first time in over a month.
In the resort town, army side Moto Moto continued their trend of going to war without proper weapons as they were thrashed 3-1 by Zambezi Lions.

Emmediator Mabhena struck a hat-trick with Moto Moto’s lone ranger Thabolwethu Dube hitting the target for the soldiers who returned to Hwange with a base full of casualties. Another Victoria Falls-based outfit Corinthians also got three precious points without kicking a ball after walking over another Hwange side Kamandama Celtics with a 3-0 scoreline.
Unlike Brazil whose life in the league seems to be running short of oxygen, Celtics are also staring at a $150 fine as this is their first walk over offence.
