Man demands maintenance from ex-wife

A MAN from Bulawayo appeared in court yesterday demanding $595 from his ex-wife for the upkeep of their minor child.

Mr Lupote Dingani told a court that his ex-wife Ms Sikhuphukile Dingani should chip in because he was struggling to make ends meet.

Mr Dingani was in May last year ordered to pay $80 monthly spousal maintenance to Ms Dingani because his ex-wife could not afford to take care of herself.

Bulawayo magistrate Mr Usheunesu Matova turned down Mr Dingani’s $595 application.

Mr Dingani said he was requesting for such an amount because their child is at an expensive boarding school.

He told the court that his ex-wife works at a flea market.

“She is working at a flea market and l’m sure she realises more than $200 every month basing on the clothes she sells,” he said.

Mr Matova asked Mr Dingani why he would claim an amount that is more than what he said his ex wife realises.

“If she realises $200, apparently your claim for maintenance in the sum of $595 is illogical,” he said.

The magistrate suggested the duo enrol their child at a cheaper school since they cannot afford the fees at a boarding school.

Ms Dingani told the court she is unemployed and her family takes care of her.

She said she was no longer selling clothes at the flea market. – @gwizi_n
