A 29-year-old man from Tsholotsho district died after spending hours drinking undiluted spirits.
The man identified as Laundry Ngwenya was reportedly found dead near his homestead by his eight-year-old neighbour early in the morning, a day after he had been seen drinking.
Confirming the incident yesterday, Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese said the incident happened last week at Dombo Line Village.

“On 5 July, Laundry Ngwenya and his uncle, Before Ndlovu, left their homesteads cycling to visit a relative who was ill. On their way back, they went to Tsholotsho Business Centre to drink beer,” said Asst Insp Makonese.
She said at about 8pm Ndlovu left Ngwenya drinking the spirits.

“On the next day at around 7am, Ngwenya was found dead near his homestead while his bicycle was a metre away,” said Asst Insp Makonese.
She said a report was made to the police in Tsholotsho who attended the scene.

“Ngwenya had no injuries and his body was taken to Tsholotsho District Hospital mortuary where it was then transferred to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for a post-mortem. Police investigations are in progress,” said Asst Insp Makonese.
