ZIMBABWE Institute of Foundries chief operations officer, Mr Dosman Mangisi, is in Egypt this week to represent the country at the Welding Federation Conference (WFC), which kicks off today.

The conference seeks to promote the development and management of welding capacities in Africa and growing national content in welding technology.

Mr Mangisi would share the stage with representatives from other African states in deliberations under the conference theme: “Welding and Allied Processes BluePrint Africa”.

Apart from meeting African states representatives, Mr Mangisi will also have an opportunity to deliberate with welding experts from Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United State of America, India, and Australia.

In an interview Mr Mangisi said the conference will help to promote value addition and beneficiation of metals, which will promote the exportation of finished products as well as import substitution in different African countries.

The Welding Federation Conference will bring the know-how and skills on value addition of metals, which will be able to transform the sector in the continent,” he said.

“This will also help the continent to take key positive steps in the reduction of metals imports, enhanced quality control, employment growth, and assist in tapping into the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA) etc.”

AfCFTA came into being after it was ratified by 22 member countries including Zimbabwe, in what the African Union (AU) believes will be a continent-wide market of 1,2 billion people worth US$2,5 trillion.
