THE success and power of Vusa Mkhaya’s unification track, Masiyephambili, that featured 30 artistes mostly from Bulawayo has given Plumtree-based arts promoter, Handsome “Handy” Sibanda the much-needed push, as he has followed suit with the production of a track titled Vuka Plumtree.

Handy, who is devoted to uplifting arts in the border town, is hoping to unite the town’s artistes through this track that is being produced by beat-maker, Ace Karter.

Featured on this project are Plumtree-based artistes Tsibi, R.S, TWT and Babongile Sibanda. South Africa-based Bif Skuad, MG87, Dolly K, Teekay Mxoexic, Demoe Rose, Ice Eazy, Croft BRKAY and Thabo are also part of the project.

Commenting on the forthcoming unification track, Handy said this is something he always wanted to do.

“Last year, I thought to myself that it was time artistes came together and did a song dedicated to our hometown. I therefore reached out to different artistes from the town who responded positively.

“We decided to name the song Vuka Plumtree as it’s a statement that was coined by Babongile Sibanda. I almost abandoned the project, but was inspired to complete it after seeing the beautiful Masiyephambili song that was done by Vusa Mkhaya for fellow Bulawayo artistes,” Handy said.

He said this was the beginning of greater things to come adding that artistes who were not included in this project should worry not, as there are many more in the pipeline.

“There are so many other talented artistes in Plumtree, but I decided that for this first project, I work with these guys. We’ll definitely do more projects in future with different artistes.

“It’s my hope that we shoot a music video for this project because it’s huge.”

The promoter added that above all, he hopes the song teaches other artistes that “unity is key” and also showcases the selected artistes’ talent in order to inspire others who want to pursue music.

Handy has been very instrumental in the promotion of arts talent in Plumtree, something that is evidenced by the rise of the town’s youngsters, The Skool Kidz whose music brand is flourishing through his support. — @mthabisi_mthire.
