GWANDA-BASED arts organisation Talent Innovation Mentorship Exercise (T.I.M.E.) Project is preparing to mark World Theatre Day this Friday by bringing together creatives from Matabeleland South province.

World Theatre Day has been observed since 1962 and will be marked at Gwanda District Club under the theme Take a Child to the Theatre Today.

The event will feature guest acts from the productions An Act of Man and True Lies directed by veteran Memory Kumbota and starring Zenzo “Mzambane” Nyathi.

An Act of a Man explores thought-provoking themes, while True Lie by Jahunda Community Arts promises an engaging narrative brought to life by Bathabile Nyathi, Ryan Ndlovu and Kukhanyakwenkosi Mnkandla.

T.I.M.E. Project director Adrian “Drivo” Musa said the event’s significance lies in exposing children and young people to the arts, which has a positive impact on personal, social and cultural development.

“In line with the Visual Performing Arts (VPA) subject, theatre plays a crucial role in fostering personal, social and cultural development. The 2024 World Theatre Day celebrations promise to be an unmissable event, with a uniquely and excitingly programmed line-up.

“More than 10 primary and secondary schools from Matabeleland South province are expected to showcase their diverse range of performances encompassing theatre, music, poetry and marimba playing. The community can anticipate a vibrant and dynamic event,” said Drivo.

Through their SCAD programme in collaboration with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, T.I.M.E. Project aims to honour World Theatre Day by highlighting children and young people’s creative contributions.

“We invite the Gwanda community to join us for a day filled with fun and exciting performances.

“Visual artists will also have the opportunity to exhibit their work. With a full house expected and esteemed guests from various organisations and Government departments, it promises to be a memorable event,” Drivo said. – @mthabisi_thire
