BREAST CANCER

A YOUTH organisation in Victoria Falls has challenged men to participate in breast cancer awareness activities saying everyone is affected by the disease.

Zimbabwe joined the rest of the world in the month-long breast cancer awareness campaign which opened on October 1 and ends tomorrow.

Mosi-oa-Tunya Zambezi Leos Club International, which is made up of youths between the ages of 18 and 31 and is a part of the Leo Club International, held an awareness campaign in Victoria Falls on Saturday where more than 200 people attended.

Leos’ chairperson for the Victoria Falls chapter, Miss Nokukhanya Sibanda, said they had noticed during their campaigns that some men know very little about the disease because “it’s a female issue”.

Speaking on the sidelines of the occasion, Miss Sibanda encouraged men to also go for screening. “We are targeting men and women because cancer affects everyone and what we have noticed is that most people especially men are not aware of the seriousness of the disease because they think it’s an all-female condition. As youths, we would want to appeal to men both young and old to be involved in these awareness activities because they are also affected,” she said.

Miss Sibanda said they distributed fliers and ribbons as a way of reaching out to people.
