“The Minister felt the SRC board was not taking sports issues in general and football in particular seriously as shown by their snubbing of such an event. He said if he as a Minister could take time to attend such a meeting, he did not understand why the board could not do the same,” said a delegate who attended the meeting that lasted almost five hours.

The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Lazarus Dokora, chairperson of the Parliamentary portfolio committee on Sports, Arts and Culture Temba Mliswa, Zifa president Cuthbert Dube, his deputy Omega Sibanda, Zimbabwe Women Football boss Mirriam Sibanda and other football personalities also attended the meeting.

Minister Langa blasted the country’s supreme sports body for their laxity in running sports and tasked them to come up with a national strategic plan for 2014-18 meant to revive sports.

He said the Ministry was also putting together a national sports policy and will soon be visiting interested groups and individuals before the final document is presented.
