Mlambos do away with CDs

Mlambos Express band launched its 20th album on Saturday in South Africa and declared that it has discarded compact discs (CDs) in favour of universal serial bus (USB).

The album is titled Money Iza Problem.

The rhumba band’s leader Fiselani SaMangwe Ngwenya says CDs are easily pirated, resulting in less returns for musicians.

“The Super Legends Mlambos Express Band has decided to discontinue CD sales. The new album (Money Iza Problem) will only be sold in USB sticks. We have considered a lot of facts including piracy that has been selling our music for R10 because of the cheap price of CDs. The band does not make CDs anymore and if you see one with our name on it know that it is fake,” said Ngwenya on the band’s Facebook account ahead of the album launch.

Speaking to Chronicle from his base in South Africa, the Swelokwakhe hit-maker said they had also considered that the latest radio gadgets are playing USBs instead of CDs.

“I am very excited that fans seem to be adapting to this change. We did a number of USBs to sell on launch day and they are all finished. We are now busy producing more as the demand is very high. I was not sure if fans would accept this change, but it seems they are also in agreement with us,” he said.

SaMangwe said the USB afforded them more space to make lengthy tracks.

SaMangwe said he is also selling his music via email and WhatsApp to fans who make payments to his bank account.

The rhumba musician said he is opening more avenues to sell his new music so that he gets much returns from it.

“I no longer have to drive from one place to another to deliver a CD as I can send music to my fans from the comfort of my home. I am changing the game and setting the standard so that I get better returns. Our fans should follow updates from our social media pages,” he said.

The blistering album has eight tracks: Money Iza Problem, Sukuma, Izinto Zitshintshile, Lamula Nduna, Technology, Icebo Lami, Wilila, and Mina Nawe.

SaMangwe did not run away from his old beat which has made him one of the most popular rhumba musicians in the country.

Listening to the album , it is clear that besides the money business of music, SaMangwe had another eye on the festive season as he made sure that the songs compel the fans to hit the dancefloor.

The title track Money Iza Problem is a lamentation of limitations one experiences as result of not having money.

The rhumba album is also spiced with the Kanindo beat on some tracks. — @themkhust.
