Despite the unexpected challenge of rain, Mlambos Express Band successfully launched their 22nd album, “Lingapheli Amandla” on Saturday night at Mitre Bar in Bulawayo.

Die-hard fans braved the weather, and the band delivered an energetic performance.

The night kicked off with a spirited rendition of the band’s hit song “Plan B”, setting the crowd dancing. The emcee for the night, poet Obert Dube, led the audience in a joyful rendition of “Happy Birthday” for band leader Fiselani SaMaNgwe Ngwenya, who celebrated 44 years.

As the band started playing songs from their new album, rain interrupted the performance, and they had to briefly leave the uncovered stage. Some attendees left, but dedicated fans patiently waited for the rain to subside.

When the band returned, they showcased another track from the new album, “Sqoqodo”, which received a warm reception. Unfortunately, it started raining again leading to another temporary halt in the performance.

Undeterred, Mlambos Express Band returned for the third time, delivering a polished act from the new album, proving their commitment to the fans.

Despite the rain challenges, the launch marked a successful debut in Zimbabwe as it was their first time to launch an album in the country.

Reflecting on the event, SaMaNgwe expressed gratitude to the fans and highlighted the band’s plans to tour various towns during the festive season.

“Besides the rain challenge, the launch was good since it was our first time in Zimbabwe. The fans loved the new album and we’re now working tirelessly to deliver copies to them. The album tour will see us perform in Plumtree, Filabusi, and Lupane among other places. We’ll combine it with our festive season shows,” SaMaNgwe said.

He also made a passionate appeal to businesses to support artistes, emphasising the mutually beneficial partnership that sponsorship offers. – @themkhust
