THE Bulawayo Provincial Education Director for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Dan Moyo on Friday took advantage of a National Association of Primary Heads (Naph) football tournament to appeal for support for the forthcoming Region Five Games. The African Union Sports Council Region Five Under-20 Games will be held in Bulawayo from December 4 to 14 and will see 15 countries, 10 from the Southern Region and five who have been given special invitation camping in the city to compete in eight sporting disciplines.

In his brief remarks during the Ingwebu Breweries sponsored football tournament at Barbourfields Stadium’s outside grounds, Moyo called for pupils to support the games.

“Renovation work is already underway here at Barbourfields Stadium, and other venues like White City Stadium, Luveve Stadium, City Pools and BAC, the athletics track at White City Stadium will now be a tartan one, the same as the one at Nust which is a bit far from most schools here. After the games in December you will not be worrying about going to Nust but instead you will be using White City Stadium,” said Moyo.

Before the finals for both girls and boys, Moyo took   time to inspect progress at Barbourfields Stadium, which will play host to the official opening and closing ceremonies.

The local organising committee for the games, led by Bulawayo provincial administrator Khonzani Ncube, has been meeting Bulawayo residents to explain the importance of the games to the city and the country at large.
