THE body of the country’s founding father and national hero, former President Cde Robert Mugabe is expected in Harare this afternoon, family spokesperson Mr Leo Mugabe said yesterday.

The body was initially set to be airlifted from Cde Mugabe’s Kutama Village in Zvimba to Harare on Tuesday, but the programme changed.

In an interview yesterday Mr Mugabe said the body will be airlifted to Harare today.

“Initially it was supposed to be airlifted to Harare yesterday (Tuesday) but the programme has been changed for today. A church service was conducted yesterday at his rural home, and another one will be conducted today in the morning. Soon after lunch the body will be airlifted to Harare,” he said.

He said that the family will tonight converge for a meeting to discuss the funeral proceedings while waiting for the completion of the mausoleum currently under construction at the National Heroes’ Acre.

Mr Mugabe said after the rural proceedings, the body will be taken to a mortuary, where it will lie in state for about 30 days to pave way for the construction of a mausoleum at the National Heroes’ Acre.
