Mwonzora arrested again, this time
for alleged involvement in  political violence
Police Tuesday arrested Nyanga North legislator Douglas Mwonzora as he left Parliament Building in Harare over his alleged involvement in violence that rocked Nyanga last week.
Mwonzora, who is a Parliamentary Select Committee co-chairperson, was last night still in police custody.
Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Oliver Mandipaka said 17 other MDC-T supporters had also been arrested in connection with the case. “We can confirm the arrest of Mwonzora yesterday afternoon on allegations that he participated in a political violence incident that took place at Chatindo School in Nyamaropa, Nyanga,” he said.
He said MDC-T supporters went to the school to hold a meeting where Zanu-PF youths wanted to have a social soccer competition.
“The MDC-T supporters attacked the Zanu-PF youths and forcibly ejected them from the school. They sought refuge at Taziva Country Club Hotel while the MDC-T supporters pursued them. The MDC-T supporters stoned and broke 15 windows and 12 asbestos sheets were damaged and they went further to cause violence at Regina Coeli Hospital.” — CR.
