NEWLY-ELECTED executive chairperson for the Premier Netball League, Rita Mkandla, says she is out to transform the outlook of the league.

She was uncontested in the elections with her only challenger withdrawing at the eleventh hour at Girls High School in Harare on Saturday.

She takes over the baton from Sarudzai Chapo, who has been captaining the ship for the past three years.

The Black Rhinos Queens chairperson was the popular candidate among the electorate and she has reassured them that she won’t disappoint.

“Let me start by thanking the game which has voted me into office. That shows a lot of trust and belief in my capabilities.

“I cannot afford to take this for granted and I will have to give my all to this game,” she said.

“I am very grateful and this responsibility that has been bestowed upon me should propel us to pure professionalism.

“I am grateful to the past office bearers who ran the league in a professional manner. Without them, we might as well have been talking of something else.

“We gladly receive the torch and we are ready to lead the game to new heights.”

Mkandla will be deputised by Kevin Marengahosi with Alice Mukunura coming in as the secretary-general while Melody Mabonga is her second-in-command.

Siyelukhile Sithole comes in as the organising secretary with Innocent Ndiya being voted the public relations and media Officer.

Ellah Gopito is the fixtures secretary and Alec Cheer as well as Tongai Magaya are executive members.

Agnes Chiroodza and Tapiwa Chirenda, by virtue of being the founding members of the league, have been technically infused into the executive as per the constitution.

The treasurer’s post will be filled by someone with the requisite qualifications with spokesperson Ndiya saying the candidate will be announced in due course.

“We are yet to choose (the treasurer) as we are waiting for confirmation of professional accounting qualifications with the producing institution,” said Ndiya.

“We will be announcing the treasurer in the coming few days.”

Meanwhile, six games were played over the weekend with ZDF Queens emerging the biggest winners when trouncing Mutare City 78-16 while Harare City were 41-27 winners over City Angels.

The next bubble will take place in Beitbridge next weekend.
