A 42-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo has appeared in court for allegedly raping his 13-year-old niece.

The man from Old Lobengula suburb was not asked to plead when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Lungile Ncube on Friday facing two counts of rape.

He was remanded in custody to November 9.

It is alleged that the man raped the girl twice last Tuesday and on Wednesday.

The girl’s aunt walked into the house as she was being raped and reported the matter to the police. The State will seek to prove that on Tuesday at around 1PM, the accused approached the complainant while she was in the kitchen and asked to have sex with her and she refused.

He allegedly raped her that day and the following day. Prosecuting, Mr Petros Shoko told the court that on Tuesday the accused forced the complainant onto the kitchen floor then raped her once.

Thereafter he threatened to beat her if she told anyone.

“On October 25, the complainant was washing plates outside when the accused person called her into the house and told her to look for cooking oil in the kitchen,” Mr Shoko said.

“As she was searching, the accused grabbed her by the arm and pulled her into his bedroom where he raped her once.”

The court heard that one of the complainant’s aunts walked into the house and found him raping the girl. A report was made to the police which led to the arrest of the accused while the complainant was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for examination.—@SlyCee.
