Pamushana Secondary School’s netball team will be aiming to defend the Stella Tea Cup for the fifth time in row when the country’s 10 provincial champions converge for the national championships at White City Stadium in Bulawayo this morning.

Pamushana believe they are the best netball team in the country and no one can stop them.

“We are going to defend our cup and make history by lifting it for the fifth time in a row. We lead and others follow. We are known to produce the best players in soccer and netball and that must continue. Our players just hand the baton to others after completing their schooling,” said Simbarashe Mlambo, Pamushana’s coach.

“Pamushana pupils do not accept anything except victory. We do everything for them and give them all they need. When they win, the headmaster hosts a dinner for them. We have joy in our girls representing Zimbabwe in Region Five at Cosasa.”

Pamushana has experienced goal defender Claris Kwaramba, centre Melody Mahanya, wing attack Viona Moyo, goal attack Joyline Ndlovu and goal shooter Patience Chibanga, a new kid on the block, who is tall and easily scores.

Besides Pamushana, Masvingo province will also be represented by Chekai Secondary. They will, however, face stiff competition from Sikhulile High of Bulawayo, Girls High of Harare and Hande Secondary of Manicaland.

Bulawayo province will be under pressure to perform as tournament hosts and much is expected from Sikhulile and Sobukhazi High.

“Tanganda are proud to support the girl child in sport that has been marginalised for a very long time. All roads will be leading to White City Stadium tomorrow (today) and we are just waiting to enjoy the sport,” said Stella Kumadiro, the sponsors’ representative.
