Kwaito star Professor has made a musical comeback by launching his own record label after having released his last album three years ago.

Professor, born Mkhonzeni Langa launched the record label named Proper Files in Durban last week with Kalawa supremo Oskido gracing the event.

Artists who he has signed so far and are already recording their music under his label are Stiff, DJ Mngane, Shezi, Ndu, Oros, Malini and Avante.

Speaking at the launch, Professor said: “This is my baby and I’ll work hard to make sure it’s a success. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me during my journey.

“I want Proper Files to grow to be one of the biggest recording companies in Mzansi.”

DJ Oskido, the owner of Kalawa Jazmee where Professor has been signed for the past couple of years, said Professor had started his record label at the right time and urged his label to work closely with Kalawa.

“This is perfect timing and I’m very proud of Professor. Let’s work together to benefit the industry,” said Oskido.

Stiff lead singer Diliza said it was great to have been signed under his mentor – Professor’s record label.

“As Stiff, we used the Kalawa studios for our sessions and this is where we met Professor whom we worked closely with over the years.

“Last year, he decided to sign us and it’s been good so far,” said Diliza, an artiste from Luveve who is based in South Africa.

He said Professor’s record label was still under Kalawa Jazmee as it is still trying to get on its feet.

“Nothing has changed. We’re still working with the same people from Kalawa, for example the producers. We’ve actually competed work on our new album and we’re waiting for Universal Records to give us a release date,” said Diliza.
