CATCHING rays in designer bikinis, sipping’ juicy umbrella drinks, and chilling by the pool is what you get at the new Queens Sports Club poolside cocktail bar in Bulawayo.

Good music, ice cold beers and freedom from violent behaviour by drunk patrons is the order of the day at the cocktail bar that was opened about three weeks ago.

With a carefree vibe from patrons and management alike, the major reason why patrons there always find themselves walking around half-naked with a drink in their hand is because of the pool and house music parties that are held regularly.

The new spot is designed to allow the younger members of the sports club and their guests to enjoy their type of fun without inconveniencing the older members in the main club.

Managed by Ntuthuko Gabellah and Laurraine Ncube, the pair has managed to turn the spot into an entertainment option for Bulawayo. The duo said they have worked hard to create a beach front atmosphere at the joint which has hosted several events that have been a success.

Patronage, they said, has risen over the last few weeks and they remain confident that they will continue to pull substantive numbers during the festive season.

Local DJs such as the Cohn family and Khaya Da Guru recently performed at the cocktail bar during an event dubbed the ‘52nd Week Deep House Night’ and drew a sizeable crowd.

“We have lined up quite a number of events for Christmas including a Dancehall Night. We believe these events will ensure that our spot stays relevant during the holidays,” Ncube said.

Apart from the entertainment value, the cocktail bar offers full meals (traditional and western) as well as a braai option. A play park that includes swings and a trampoline to cater for children has also been set up.
