Quelaton lose to Bulls

Visitors Motor Action, whose director is PSL board member finance, Eric Rosen, chose to be an embarrassment to the sponsors once more after their antics last week in which they refused to go and fulfill their fixture against Caps United at Gwanzura Stadium. During yesterday’s match, they played wearing jerseys which did not have the sponsors logo.

Their team manager was also doubling up as the medic while home side Quelaton fielded an ineligible player Zibusiso Sibanda who was given his marching orders in the 2-0 loss to Chicken Inn at the same venue last week.

The two clubs are likely to be hauled before the league’s disciplinary committee to answer to charges of bringing the game of football into disrepute.

PSL board member competitions Tawengwa Hara could not comment on the issue.

“We will wait for the referees’ report because at the moment I don’t have any documentation,” said Hara.

The match started on a slow note although the visitors showed early intentions of winning and could have gone ahead had their strikers been more alert in the 10th minute after a porous and confused Winston Chiwetu, in goal for the hosts, failed to hold a harmless looking cross but there was no one from the visitors’ camp to punish him for that.

Quelaton must have realised the risk they were exposing themselves to and quickly started their own raids with skipper Innocent Kutsanzira showing some deft passes. In one of his moves from the centre circle, he made a solo run and spotted an on-rushing Fortune Nkomazana on the left flank and with just one man to beat, the young man simply ran out of ideas and the ball was quickly hooked away to safety by Dominic Mukandi.

Mukandi and former Chicken Inn player Morris Kadzola put up star performances for the visitors’ central defence.

The opening goal saw three players involved in the execution, two from the visitors and Quelaton’s goalkeeper Chiwetu.

A long cross came from the left side in the 21st minute, released by Yves Ebabali and Ishmael Lawe had all the time to slice the ball past a static Chiwetu, who in all essence, should not have lasted the duration of the first half, later on the whole match.

He was to haunt the home side again in the 35th minute after some good exchanges of passes from the Motor Action players that saw an unselfish Gift Phiri laying the ball for him to coolly finish it off.

The second half saw the home side literally camping in the Motor Action final third but lack of composure and experience was their biggest undoing.

However if only they had three players of Mhleli Sibanda’s skill and vision then perhaps, the Quelaton story could be different. The boy knows why he is in the field of play.

Proud Zireni’s 30m tame shot in the 48th minute was easily dealt with by the big Motor Action goalkeeper Marlon Jani.

The third goal came in the 51st minute through skipper John Bernard’s header who was found unmarked inside the box off a corner kick. Bernard though had to be taken out with an injury in the 65th minute for former Railstars player and one of the longest serving players in the league, Edward Tembo.

Quelaton had another break deep in the match from the right side but Kutsanzira, instead of going for the kill, made a rather strange decision by back heeling for Tedias Mugumanja who was way off, much to the disappointment of an equally disappointing crowd.

It had to be the last real action of the match before the on top of the situation referee, Nkosana Nduna, blew to end Quelaton’s agony.

“We lost to a better side although our defence did not help matters either,” said a clearly disappointed Quelaton coach Thulani Sibanda.

His counterpart, Joe Antipas, was also not impressed by his players.

“We should have buried these guys for six or even more. My boys played well though, we were solid in defence, superior in midfield and the strikeforce created chances which unfortunately we failed to bury,” said Antipas.
