Re-engagement policy not a sign of weakness: Zanu-PF Cde Simon Khaya Moyo

The ruling Zanu-PF party yesterday said Government’s engagement and re-engagement policy should not be viewed as a sign of weakness.

This comes as Government has exposed some foreign missions for working with the MDC Alliance to cause anarchy in the country.

In a statement yesterday, Zanu-PF national spokespersons Cde Simon Khaya-Moyo said the ruling party will not sit back and watch the MDC Alliance and its foreign handlers as they try to topple President Mnangagwa’s Government through staging of violent demonstrations.

“While the Zanu-PF party and its Government remain committed to the re-engagement efforts espoused by His Excellency, President ED Mnangagwa, this should not be mistaken for weakness and opportunity by some foreign missions to cause divisions. Equally, Zanu-PF would like to remind foreign missions and NGOs against dabbling in the internal political processes of the Zimbabwe but confine themselves to their terms of reference which are clearly spelt out in the international protocols,” said Cde Khaya-Moyo.

He said while some of the foreign missions pretended to be doyens of democracy and paragons of virtue, Zanu-PF will not forget the role they played in supporting the oppressive regime during the country’s colonial era.

Cde Khaya-Moyo said some embassies have no moral standing to tell Zimbabwe about human rights and how to govern the country.

He said MDC Alliance and its surrogate organisations’ previous violent demonstrations informed police’s decision to issue prohibition orders against the opposition’s planned protests, a decision upheld by the courts. Cde Khaya-Moyo said the ruling party does not see where foreign embassies are missing it.

He said the MDC Alliance planned violent demonstrations set for today and tomorrow will not be tolerated as their intentions are to destabilise the country. “Zanu-PF notes with great concern renewed attempts by the beleaguered opposition MDC-Alliance party to roll out a series of demonstrations in the countryside including small towns and growth points in its violent quest to overthrow the legitimate Government of Zimbabwe led by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” he said.

Cde Khaya-Moyo said while the party respects constitutionalism, the MDC should not abuse their rights to cause anarchy with the aim of overthrowing a constitutionally elected Government.

He said planned demonstrations are meant to divert citizens from economic productivity which the ruling party is pursuing.

“The MDC Alliance’s continued and stubborn pursuit of its destabilisation agenda has now reached its zenith and the revolutionary Zanu-PF party can no longer watch idly while the hard fought for peace and tranquillity the country enjoys is undermined by the puppet organisation hell bent on pleasing its foreign handlers,” he said.

“Further, the intended rolling out of these demonstrations to the countryside comes at a time when preparations for the 2019/20 summer cropping season are now in full swing. The demonstrations are therefore timed to derail determined and spirited efforts by Government to resuscitate agricultural production through various programmes.”

Cde Khaya-Moyo said Zanu-PF’s Government will remain committed to solving economic challenges while commending the nation for remaining calm.

“Once again, the revolutionary party would like to commend the security apparatus for their unwavering dedication to ensuring that peace and tranquillity prevails in the country. The party also commends the generality of Zimbabweans who have continued to ignore efforts by MDC Alliance and their handlers to incite them to engage in violent demonstrations,” said Cde Khaya-Moyo. — @nqotshili
