THE schools athletics season goes a gear up today when schools in the three Matabeleland provinces hold cross-country and field events competitions at various centres.
After last Friday’s inter-house competitions, schools will compete at zonal level to identify talent for the districts finals meant to select winners to compete in the provincial championships.

Track events will be held tomorrow.
Nemane Adventist High School will play host to Tsholotsho Central finals which will involve Zibungululu Secondary School, Tsholotsho and John Landa Nkomo High Schools.

Nemane High School sports co-ordinator Mdelelwa Khoza said they were ready for the event.
“We have been doing well so far and our aim is to revive the sport in the district so that we continue producing stars like Daniel Ncube who represented the country two years ago.We want our athletes to continue shining at national events,” said Khoza.

Tsholotsho has seven clusters which are Tsholotsho North, Tsholotsho Central One, Tsholotsho Central Two, Tsholotsho South, Tsholotsho East and Tsholotsho West.

The zonal teams will clash at the district competition at Dikili High School on February 20.
In Matabeleland South, Umzingwane Cluster A will hold their finals at How Mine High School tomorrow.

Falcon College, Sihlengeni, How Mine and Bayethe Secondary Schools will battle it out for places to represent the district.
Cluster B finals will be held at Mzingwane High School with Mawabeni, Mvuthu and Sikhoveni participating.

Stanmore High School will play host to Gwanda North B finals while Mtshabezi High School will play host to Gwanda North A championships.
