SHABANIE Mine still has hopes of snatching the sole promotion ticket in the Zifa Central Soccer League from runaway leaders, Border Strikers, to make a quick return into the Premiership. The asbestos miners who have so far collected 35 points are 13 points behind the log leaders who sit comfortably on 48 points. With eight games to go before the season ends which translates to 24 points still to play for, the Chinda Boys coach, Tendai Chikuni, believes his charges can spring a surprise and return to the top-flight league.

“It’s difficult for us now because the gap between us and Border Strikers is a big one. We just need to start winning our games now and who knows we might get promoted if anything happens because this is football,” he said. Shabanie Mine welcome party spoilers Gweru United who have developed a knack of stopping big teams in the league.
