A KWEKWE gold panner who allegedly stabbed his live-in girlfriend of three years nine times all over her body, killing her on the spot before blowing off their house’s roof with dynamite in a suicide attempt has appeared in court.

Godfrey Sibanda (37) appeared before Kwekwe Magistrate Mr Livard Philemon facing one count of murder.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to August 18 for recording of his statement.

According to the request for remand form produced in court, Sibanda allegedly had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend Ms Moline Maimba last Friday at around 1AM at House Number W128 Amaveni where they lived.

“Around 3AM, the accused person allegedly stabbed her several times on the chest and on the back with a kitchen knife causing her death. State facts linking the accused to the commission of the crime is that he was found sitting on top of the now deceased holding a silver kitchen knife stabbing her and his clothes were stained with blood,” reads part of the request for remand form.

Mr Chimwenje Vincent appeared for the state.

Meanwhile, Ms Maimba will be buried today at her rural home in Sanyati according to Mr Douglas Tapfuma whose wife was Ms Maimba’s older sister.

He said they had collected Ms Maimba’s body from the mortuary. “We have collected her body and we will be going to Sanyati were she will be buried tomorrow,” he said yesterday.
