FORMER Highlanders FC central defender Thomas Sweswe is still in the books of South African Absa Premier Soccer League team Bidvest Wits.
Wits coach Gavin Hunt denied speculation that Sweswe had gone for trials at Mpumalanga Black Aces or some other team.
Hunt told Chronicle Sport: “I don’t know anything about Sweswe leaving the team, what I’m aware of is that the Zimbabwean is still out injured. He has been struggling with a knee injury which he sustained last October, but the good news is that he has started light training.

“We miss the steely defender as we are fighting for the championship. As soon as he is fit definitely I will use him as his position is still open.”

The former Warriors defender who starred for Kaizer Chiefs in previous seasons signed a two-year contract with Wits last year hoping for a turn around in his football career.

Hunt said the player who also played for Dynamos and Sporting Lions in Zimbabwe has huge experience in the game and is one of the players his team is built around.

“His injury has surely hampered our plans for the season, but there is nothing we can do as injuries are part of the beautiful game. When I met Sweswe he was one of the most disciplined and focused players,” said Hunt. Sweswe’s team is in the top eight of the 16-team PSL log.

Former Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari, Tinashe Nengomasha, Denver Mukamba and Onismor Bhasera are some of the players turning out for the Milpark-based side.

Maritzburg United halted the Chiefs juggernaut through strikes by man-of-the-match Ryan de Jongh and new signing Bongolwethu Jayiya, while Kingstone Nkhatha continued with his rich vein of form scoring the first goal before gangly Tefu Mashamaite scored the equaliser at Harry Gwala Stadium in Durban on Tuesday evening in an Absa Premier Soccer League match.

Nkhatha scored a brace against Black Africa in a Champions League game on Saturday.
