Talen Vision secure top four finish Mkhuphali Masuku

TALEN Vision technically secured a top four finish in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League after beating Makomo 2-1 at the weekend.

It was a crucial victory for Vision as they enhanced their chances of participating in the end of season John Landa Nkomo Memorial Cup for top four teams.

The $5 000 competition will see winners taking home $1 300 and losing finalists pocketing $600. The third and fourth-placed teams will each pocket $300.

Goals by Grey Kufandada and Dingani Maphosa powered Vision to victory, taking their points’ tally to 52, three points ahead of fifth-placed Makomo, whose consolation goal came from Vitalis Ncube.

Makomo will need to win their last game of the season by more than 15 goals and hope Vision lose to Zim Leopards for the coalminers to sneak into the top four.

Vision coach Mkhuphali Masuku, who took over the reins in May from Slovakian Miroslav Nemec, is targeting a strong finish.

Vision president Khumbulani Nkomo rang technical changes in May after seeing the team picking up 10 points from seven games.

Nemec and his technical team had been given a target of 20 points from 10 games, but they were removed from the first team dugout after seven games after it became clear that they could only get 19 points from 10 outings.

“Obviously we want to finish the season strongly and winning the John Landa Nkomo Memorial Cup will be a bonus for us. We owe our turnaround to everyone who was involved in the Talen Vision project and I can safely say it is all about teamwork,” said Masuku.

“Now our target is to finish the season strongly, go for maximum points against a Zim Leopards side that has been in the league for a while before turning our focus to the Cup.”

Vision will compete against champions Hwange and Tsholotsho and ZPC Hwange, who are battling for the number two slot.

Tsholotsho are currently tied on 55 points with ZPC Hwange and suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to relegation bound Toronto at the weekend.

ZPC Hwange kept their hopes of pipping Tsholotsho for second position with a 4-0 thumping of Zim Leopards.
