AN Early Childhood Development teacher in Nyamandlovu allegedly fondled a Grade Seven pupil after calling her into his classroom.

Lovemore Tshuma (45) called the 12-year-old pupil into his classroom in June under the pretext that he wanted her to help him underline books and ended up fondling her.

Tshuma was not asked to plead to indecent assault charges by magistrate Ms Sibongile Ncube. Ms Ncube remanded him out of custody to September 20.

Prosecuting, Mrs Makonese said Tshuma allegedly fondled the Grade Seven pupil on June 29 at around 7AM.

The court heard that the minor told her friend about the incident and was advised to report the matter to their class teacher.

Her teacher made a report to the police.

In a statement, the minor said Tshuma was in the habit of calling her and her friend to assist him with marking but on this particular day he told her to come alone. — MondelaC
