Terroso looks forward to Chibuku clash against Highlanders

BULAWAYO Chiefs coach Nilton Terroso is relishing his team’s Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final against Highlanders on September 18.

The quarter-finals are taking place on September 17/18, semi-finals are scheduled for October 15/16 with the final on November 19.

The venues for the matches will be determined by the Premier Soccer League in due course.

Both Bulawayo Chiefs and Highlanders are enjoying a fine run in the league which sets up for a potentially explosive encounter.

While he admits it will be a good game of football, Terroso hopes his charges remain focused in the league games they will play before the big clash.

“It’s a good fixture. I think this is the first time we play in a cup competition. The league game we had was really good and it was well played. Both sides played good football you would expect the same in the competition. However, it’s two weeks away. We have some difficult fixtures before that,” said Terroso.

Chiefs face Ngezi in Mhondoro next in the league.

Bulawayo Chiefs have done well in the league and are in position 10 on the table having collected 36 points from 26 games. They look set for their best finish with eight games to play. In 2018 they finished 13th with 39 points and ended the following season in the same position, but with 41 points.

They will also want to do well in the league’s top knockout competition.

The Chibuku Cup adopted a group format in the preliminary stage last year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The preliminary round played at Mandava Stadium last month saw Cranborne Bullets draw 1-1 with Whawha before the latter won 8-7 on penalties.

FC Platinum won last year’s Chibuku Super Cup with a 5-3 on penalties win over Ngezi Platinum after the match had concluded 0-0 after extra time.

The Chibuku Super Cup is sponsored to the tune of US$375 000 by Delta Beverages.
