FORMER secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Golf Course Superintendents’ Association, Tizayi Tundu Sithole, has been appointed as the assistant superintendent at Oak Hills Park Golf Course in the United States.

Sithole holds various golf course management qualifications, including a certificate from Ohio State University, Golf Course Management from Scotland Rural University College, and also holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, specialising in Crop Science from the University of Zimbabwe.

He has already started familiarising himself with the course and surrounding areas, and is looking forward to learning more about course management in his new role.

He will be working under the guidance of Jim Schell, the superintendent at Oak Hills Park.

Prior to this appointment, Sithole worked as a project manager for Landscape Solutions, where his responsibilities included maintenance of a golf course, rugby pitch, softball pitch and bowling green.

Sithole is looking forward to learning a lot about course management in his new role.

“The journey is still there and I am looking forward to some mentorship and skills upgrade from the boss,” Sithole posted on X (formerly Twitter).

In a statement, Oak Hills Park encouraged its members to give Sithole a warm welcome whenever they see him on the course.

“Oak Hills Park sends a very warm welcome to our new assistant superintendent, Tizayi Tundu Sithole, ‘Tiz’. Most recently from Florida, Tiz arrived this week and he is familiarising himself with our staff, the course and specific seasonal turf challenges.

“We are very happy to welcome Tiz to Norwalk’s hidden gem and we are sure you will give a big ‘Oak Hill’ welcome when you see him on the course,” read part of the statement.

He also joins Oak Hills Park with a wealth of experience he garnered from working at Leopard Rock Golf Resort & Hotel. He interned at the Hyde Park Golf and Country Club in Cincinnati and Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando. – @brandon_malvin
