CAPS United director Twine Phiri believes his club can build from its decent performance of 2014 and gun for the championship next year. Phiri, who was in Bulawayo for the Africa Union Sports Council Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games final match between hosts Zimbabwe and Zambia on Sunday, said there was still potency in the Caps United brand.

Makepekepe were third in the championship race. Internal problems mainly to do with funding affected morale in the camp and the team lost ground.

The club recently lost coach Taurayi Mangwiro to neighbours Harare City.

“We’re in the hunt for a coach to replace Mangwiro. We’ve lost a good coach and we hope to get someone who will just be as good if not better and who will take the club to a higher level.

“Caps is a club that is ever ambitious,” said Phiri on the sidelines of the Games after-party for senior management.

He said Mangwiro’s departure had taken the club by surprise and thrown their off-season plans off balance.

He remained confident that Caps United would rally back and be a force to reckon with.

Phiri conceded that the club was eager to partner with commercial entities, a move he said would see them go from strength to strength.

“We need partners that’ll be able to fund the club’s operations.

“Sponsorship will make a lot of difference for the club,” he said.

Phiri said the club had played well in the 2014 season and was looking to an even better year in 2015.
