Umguza experiences choral revolution

Dr Mpofu is the Minister Mines and Mining Development and the album was launched at a city hotel on Thursday night.

The album has praise songs for the heroes and heroines that sacrificed their lives to liberate this country.

A track on the album titled Bob explains why President Mugabe who sacrificed the greater part  of his life to liberate this country, is the rightful leader of Zimbabwe. The title track of the album, loosely translates to, say what you want, and calls on the populace to take up the opportunities that their leaders have availed through the indigenisation and economic empowerment programmes.

Members of the group were full of praises for Dr Mpofu for assisting them.

They said they were grateful for the sponsorship which enabled the group to record their album.

“The song called ILand yiCanaan is my favourite because land is our livelihood as Zimbabweans. This was what we fought for  during the liberation struggle and the land reform programme gave us back what  was rightfully ours. The land is very precious to us,” said Raphael Ncube who is the lead vocalist in the group.

He said the song was a hit in their constituency and people were no longer calling him by his name.

“The song is so popular in the constituency that people now call me Canaan. We are not one hit wonders,” said Ncube.
Belinda Ndlovu who is the lead vocalist said songs like Bayethe gave praise to Dr Mpofu who is known as Umdudla in his constituency, for all he has done.

She said the song talks about how people can be deceived to leave a tried and tested party like Zanu-PF to join western sponsored puppets.

“Ingoma ithi, Ungehla umdudla wedonki, kumbe owebhiza ongaka oyegada okuncinyane. We are urging people to go back to the tried and tested political party Zanu-PF that is big and is a cut above the rest,” said Ndlovu.

One of the members of the group Bizani Dube said the experience of working with old people was great. He said the Chimurenga songs inspire people to fight for what is theirs.

“The experience of working with old people  was great. I would like to thank the President and especially my MP, Dr Mpofu Umdudla for empowering us rural folk to come up with projects that sustain us,” said Dube who is also a praise poet.

Producer of the album, Ishe John Gara said three videos of the album have been shot and the official launch would be held mid-August.

He said some scenes of the video of the title track of the album captured all the good that Dr Mpofu did in his constituency.

“We have promoted the album in Harare and the launch would be very soon in Umguza. The launch would be a live show and would be officiated by Dr Mpofu and attended by other Government officials. We are already working on a second album,” said Gara.

He added that there was a lot of untapped talent in the rural areas.
