Unesco invites artistes to share Covid-19 experiences Unesco

UNESCO is calling upon artists to share their Covid-19 experiences through artworks for a ResiliArt Illustration Contest where various prize monies are up for grabs.

According to a statement on blazermag.com, the competition is open to students and emerging illustrators from Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, eSwatini and Zambia who are between the ages 16 to 25 years. The themes for the illustrations are Art is Resilient, The effects of Covid-19 on the culture and creative industry and The effect of Covid-19 on you as an artist.

The first prize is US$200, second US$150, third US$100 and #ResiliArt Audience Award where US$50 is up for grabs.

The statement said the contest was part of UNESCO’S efforts to raise awareness on the pandemic. “The contest is part of UNESCO’s global movement towards raising awareness about the impact of Covid-19 on the culture sector and the livelihoods of creative professionals.

“In addition to this, the movement is giving visibility to artistes and ensuring their voices are heard at policy level to address existing gaps and needs,” read the statement.
